Summer League kicked off this past Tuesday with four teams playing in two matches.
Deep Heat vs CHASE
I didn't see much of this game, so can't comment on it's entirety. This is what I recollect.
CHASE came out with their usual dominate performance, taking a early (and large) lead. Deep Heat left their come back too late, getting a few points in at the end. Even Pete's pep talk during a time-out in the last point proved too little, too late; serving mostly to just lengthen the game;-) So CHASE took revenge for Love Easter, winning the game. Final score: 14-6.
LDW vs Kebab Hammer
Another grudge match, after losing to LDW by a point at Love Easter, Kebab Hammer were eager for some revenge. Unfortunately, they were missing their kit designer, D McC and had to forgo his motivational speeches. They had however acquired Brown player, Pixie, on the transfer market. LDW were also a little understrength, with some of their players choosing to put holidays before their commitment to the team!
Kebab Hammer came out strong right from the get go, taking an early lead. The pairing of Shirley and Pixie proved particularly effective. Only some excellent 'D' from LDW player, Big Rob, showed any signs of stopping these two. So Kebab Hammer took the first half.
LDW, not being ones to give up easily, dug their heals in, scraping in a few extra points during the second half. With the final hooter going, it was 7-6 to Kebab, with Hammer in possession. But LDW could smell the point from a draw and the chance to rob Kebab of a win after they had kept the lead all game. LDW pulled their socks up (metaphorically) and forced a turn over from Kebab. Then, with some careful handling, they sneaked a point in for the draw. Final score: 7-7.
