well this is what i remember...
1st game - brown 2: worst loss of the weekend. offence struggled against a basic zone defence. our man defense wasn't switched on at all. standard slow start.
2nd game - sheffield steel: oh this one hurts. up 10-5 to go on to lose 10-12. man defense worked a lot better. strugglled again against a zone defense for the final 7 points. lots of turnovers deep in our own half.
3rd game - baf2: used our zone defense to great effect. able to close out an easy win despite coming in after a marathon against steel.
4th game - abstract: we scored an upwind point early on and were never really threatened upwind. they had no imagination against our zone. won 10-7 but fairly easily.
5th game - fusion west: 11-7 loss in the end. A really good showing. despite their great ambitions we kept pace with them fairly consistently. our zone defense put a lot of pressure on their handlers. offensively effective most of the time.
6th game (sunday) - trigger happy: good win. very experienced side who knew what to do. out ran them in the end.
7th game - strange blue: possibly the most organised team we played. had too much speed and and legs for us as players started to fade / leave. competed well but they were deserved winners.
8th game - EMO2: massive squad and we struggled to keep up (despite my best efforts to injure their players). had a couple of comebacks but weren't able to keep pace with them in the end.
9th game - flyght club: for me, played like a fairly unimportant match. both teams shattered from the weekend and glad to get over the line. we just had enough to come out on top.
mvp: Jared - well deserved. Ran like a trooper for the whole weekend.
lessons (this is my opinion)
1. Man defense needs to work a lot harder. Too many breaks. Too many passes on the open side as well. Not enough pressure applied to the dump (that's a personal one - i poached off too often). At our best it worked very well. But it was very inconsistent.
2. Zone defense worked well generally. We need to collapse the cup much more readily.
3. Offense - we turned over far too often in our own half making it much too easy for cheap transition scores. in my opnion and a bit controversially huck and D is an option when our handlers are struggling to retain the disc (especially in the face of a solid zone defense).... it's a bit drastic but it's an option.
